Controlled Atmosphere Results from Vidalia Farm and Bland Farm

Last month's newsletter contained CA results from the Vidalia Onion and Vegetable Research Center. This month, I've included both the VOVRC and Bland Farm results. Please note that the LSDs listed on the VOVRC results are higher than last month. I have adjusted them so there is a more conservative comparison of the results. The onions were pulled from CA storage on 10/2-3/01.

The top five varieties for CA storage from the Bland Farm trial were Southern Honey, WI-609, Nirvana, Sweet Melody and PS 7092. Only 'Southern Honeh' is the variety that appears in the top five in both the VOVRC and Bland Farm trials.

Upcoming Events

January will be a busy month, with several meetings planned. The Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Grower Association Conference is scheduled for January 11-13, 2002, in Savannah. This meeting has grown so much that it will be held at the Civic Center for the first time this year. Winter School is also scheduled in January -- January 22-24, 2002, at Rock Eagle. The first day will be devoted to water issues. We plan on having a Vegetable Update on January 24 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:3- a.m. in the Hastings 1 Building. This should be a good opportunity to get an update on new items, etc., in vegetables.
