Farmer-Researcher Roundtable

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you and your colleagues to our Farmer-Researcher Roundtable to be held February 21-22, 2003. This event will bring together farmers, researchers and allied personnel to develop researchable projects in organic production. This event is hosted by Georgia Organics (GO) and sponsored by the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program along with the Agricultural Research Service. It is open to all farmers, nonprofit leaders and researchers working to improve the organic production and marketing of fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Travel assistance of up to $250 is being offered to three or four qualified farmers and nonprofit leaders per state in the southeast. If you wish to attend and would like travel assistance, please enclose a letter indicating your interest and estimated travel costs on your farm or organization letterhead by January 30. On the registration form, strike through the $40 registration fee for the Roundtable.

The Roundtable will be held directly preceding the Georgia Organics Conference and Trade Show. Both the Roundtable and Conference will be held at the Nessmith-Lane Continuing Education Center on the Georgia Southern campus (please see directions below). I would like to encourage you to register for the GO conference that will be held on February 22-23, 2003, at the same Center.

I look forward to seeing you at both the Roundtable and Conference. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me or Mary Anne Woodie, Conference Coordinator, at (404) 697-5279 or maryanne@georgiaorganics.org

From My Desk

I've been spending a lot of time working on this Roundtable, so I didn't get around to sending out a newsletter in November. This final newsletter for 2002 combines the November and December newsletters. I certainly hope you have the opportunity to come to the Roundtable. This will, I hope, be the catalyst for increasing research in organic production. It's Christmas Eve and pouring down rain in Statesboror. I still have to go out and do some Christmas shopping, so I've got to go. Merry Christmas and Heppy New Year!
